Mangy and I love this little café in Fitzroy called the Green Grocer’s. My favourite thing on the menu is their Avocado toast, with grapefruit and harissa aioli.
Since we had Grapefruit from our South Melbourne Market visit, I thought this would be an easy enough dish to put together for dinner tonight (breakfast for dinner!).
But we didn’t have any harissa or mayo at home, and I couldn’t be bothered buying any. So I’ve made up my own little recipe. It doesn’t taste anything like the Green Grocer’s, but it was yummy still. I served it with home made no-knead bread – toasted on a hot pan.
2 smallish avocados – cubed
1 grapefruit – peeled, cut into segments, and then half the segments into smaller pieces – squeeze the pulpy stuff over the avocado, the juice adds flavour as well
3 tablespoons pine nuts or pepitas (roasted in a pan – no oil)
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon dukkah
2 tablespoons of goat’s cheese (torn into smaller pieces)
Salt to taste
Pepper to taste
Sugar – tiny pinch to counter the grape fruit
Good bread – toasted
Mix all of the above (except the toasts and lemon wedges), be careful not to mash up the avocado. Serve on top of warm toasts with lemon wedges on the side – enjoy!
