Drunken Steak

For someone who doesn’t drink, I sure do use a lot of alcohol in my cooking! Here’s another drunken number – whiskey soaked steaks! These are incredibly boozy and the whiskey does not burn off entirely, so don’t be surprised if you’re a little light headed after this meal 🙂

You’ll need:

  • 2 steaks (your choice of cut)
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 1/2 cup whiskey
  • 1/2 cup spicy teriyaki soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soya sauce
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic glaze
  • head of garlic
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 dried chillies
  • 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon dried chives
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce
  • salt
  • pepper
  • white pepper

Mix all ingredients together. Using a knife, puncture the meat and make cuts in the rind. Marinade steaks in whiskey mix overnight.

24 hours later, remove steaks from marinade and allow to come to room temperature.

Just before grilling, use some kitchen paper towels and thorough pat dry steak on both sides. Season liberally on both sides with salt and crushed black pepper (making sure to press the seasoning into the meat to form a crust). Grill steaks to your liking. Enjoy!
